Cricket Run Rate Calculator (Current RPO)

In cricket, an over consists of 6 legal deliveries. Crucially, notation such as '19.4 overs' means 19 completed overs plus 4 balls (118 total legal balls = 19.667 overs), NOT 19.4 decimal overs! WorldOfCricket.in calculates the exact mathematical rate by dividing total legal balls by 6.

Mathematical Formula & Explanation

In standard cricket mathematics, calculating values per over must be performed against completed legal deliveries divided by 6:

Run Rate = Total Runs / (Completed Legal Balls / 6)

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is 19.4 overs not 19.4 in the formula?

Because overs use base-6 for balls. 4 balls is 4/6ths of an over (0.6667 overs), so 19.4 overs equals 19.6667 decimal overs. Dividing by 19.4 produces an inaccurate rate.

Do wides and no-balls count as legal balls?

No. Wides and no-balls add runs to the team score but do not count as legal balls towards the 6-ball over count.
